Our Wool

The reason they last.

Not all wool dryer balls are the same. Ours begin with hand-carded, high-altitude Himalayan wool — and that single choice is why they stay dense, soft, and whole for years.

Where it begins

It starts with the fibre.

A dryer ball is only as good as the wool inside it — and only as long-lasting as the fibre is left intact. That's the part most makers get wrong. To keep costs down, they card their wool by machine, which tears the long natural strands into short, broken fragments. The ball looks fine on day one. Then it pills, thins, sheds, and comes apart. We do the slow thing instead, because it's the thing that lasts.

Hand-carded vs. machine-carded

One choice changes
everything.

Carding is how raw wool is combed and aligned before felting. How it's done decides how long the ball survives.

The usual way

Machine-carded

Fast and cheap. Steel drums rip through the fleece, shortening and snapping the fibres so they no longer bind well.

  • Short, broken fibres that won't hold together
  • Pills, thins, and sheds within months
  • Needs replacing far sooner
The Auré way

Hand-carded

Slow and deliberate. Our artisans comb the fleece by hand, keeping the long natural fibres unbroken — so they lock together densely when felted.

  • Long fibres left whole, exactly as they grew
  • Dense, resilient balls that keep their shape
  • Lasts for years and 1,000+ loads
Where the wool comes from

From the highest
pastures on earth.

Our wool is gathered where the air is thin and the winters are long — from hardy sheep and yaks grazing the high Himalayan pastures. At that altitude, animals grow a fleece that's finer, springier, and far more resilient than lowland wool.

We work hand-in-hand with the local herders who raise them, season after season, buying directly and taking only the fleece that meets our standard. No brokers, no anonymous supply chain — just the people who know each animal by name.

Wool vs. the alternatives

Why wool wins.

Against a plastic dryer ball or a box of disposable sheets, real Himalayan wool isn't a close call.

Himalayan wool contains lanolin and breathes as it works, which is why it resists dust mites, mildew, and the buildup that irritates sensitive skin — without a single additive. There's no synthetic fragrance, no coating, no residue left on your clothes. Just clean fibre. It's the reason we felt a smaller size especially for babies' laundry, delicates, and the most reactive skin in your home.
